In a bit of surprising news this week, for me at least, it seems that the 2014 horror-comedy Wolfcop (read our review) is getting a sequel. Not only that, but the film is already complete!
Making its debut later this weekend at Fantastic Fest, Another Wolfcop sees the return of it’s alcoholic lycanthropic protagonist Lou Garou as he and his posse of small-town sidekicks battle “an eccentric businessman with evil intentions seduces Woodhaven’s residents with a new brewery and hockey team.” Sounds…interesting? Definitely has a Kevin Smith vibe to it which makes sense considering writer/director Lowell Dean’s respect for his fellow Canadian filmmaker.
It should also be noted that Dean is continuing his commitment to practical effects, something that received a good bit of praise in the original Wolfcop. In a recent interview with Expert Comics, the director shared his thoughts on the matter:
I find, and this is my personal opinion, that even AVERAGE practical effects are more charming and heartwarming than average VFX. Average VFX just feels dead to me. And I will always go practical over digital unless I’m making a 150 million dollar movie.
